University of Waikato gets ready, to get thru

The Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management espouses families and businesses to "get ready to get through" and recently in Hamilton, that is exactly what the University of Waikato did.
Mercalli Disaster Management Consulting provided a one day workshop on Campus Emergency Management to key crisis management staff from within the Facilities and Health/Safety Departments.
Campus Emergency Management is not new to Mercalli Director, Steve Glassey who has been working with many tertiary institutions over the past few years, assisting the development of their emergency plans and training. In addition to this, Steve is a faculty member of the Joint Centre for Disaster Research and is currently researching the impact on disasters on tertiary institutions for the New Zealand Tertiary Education Commission.
The workshop yielded excellent feedback and paves the way for further initiatives at the University.
"The University of Waikato has got it right. They are investing in emergency planning, not only to ensure they can recover quickly, but to keep their staff and students safe" remarks Steve.
